Trezor Model One Instruction 2023 – activation of Trezor Model One, wallet recovery, sending cryptocurrency

It is very easy to use the Trezor Model One wallet. But we know from our own lives that even simple things can look hard and make it hard to think straight. So, we made a guide that will show you step-by-step how to set up Trezor Model One and how to use the wallet safely.

A few tips for the introduction

You can buy hardware wallets from the company that made them (Trezor.io) or from authorized sellers ( Alza or CZC).

If you think the packaging isn’t original or has been opened (for example, if the holographic sticker is broken), don’t use the wallet and contact Trevor Model One’s customer service instead.

Don’t buy hardware wallets that have been used before. If you buy a used wallet, you should check it and reset it to factory settings before using it.

Setting up a new Vault

What do you want?

  • Android on a computer or a phone
  • Model One vault
  • USB connection cable (included in the package)
  • The package comes with a card for writing down the seed and a pen.
  • Between 10 and 15 minutes

What awaits you?

  • Installing the firmware and creating a wallet
  • Wallet backup
  • PIN settings
  • Wallet settings

STEP 1. INSTALLING THE FIRMWARE AND CREATING A WALLET

  • Trezor Suite can be downloaded from trezor.io/start ( button Get desktop app). Click Trezor Suite for the web to control the wallet from a web browser.
  • Use a USB cable to hook up the Trezor to your computer. Click Get Started in the Trezor Suite app to get started.
  • The wallet comes from the manufacturer without firmware, so you have to install it after the first time you connect it. Use the button Install firmware to start the installation.
  • You must also make sure the installation is complete on Trezor Model One (right button Continue).
  • After installing the firmware, you will be given the option to create a new wallet (Create a new wallet) or restore the wallet with a seed ( Recover wallet). Since we’re making a new wallet, we’ll go with the first option.

STEP 2. WALLET BACKUP

How does it work? If you are making a new wallet, Trezor Model One will make what is called a “recovery seed” and show it to you. Seed is a unique English phrase with 12 to 24 words that you must write down and hide well. You can use the seed to get your Trezor back if you lose it, break it, or forget your PIN.

  • Click on Standard seed backup in the Trezor Model One Suite app.
  • The app will show you how to work with the seed. Make sure you understand the instructions and then click the button “Start backup” to move on.
  • The safe’s screen will show 24 words in English. Write the words down in the order given and check them carefully. Press the right button on the Vault when you’re done ( Finish).
  • Use the button to go on. Continue to PIN.

STEP 3. PIN SETTINGS

  • The next step is to choose a PIN that will be used to lock the Vault.
  • On Trezor’s screen, a field with numbers from 1 to 9 will show up in any order. In the Trezor Model One Suite app, you will also see the same field, but without any numbers.
  • Click the PIN you want in the Trezor Model One Suite app based on how it is organized on the Trezor display. The PIN can have no more than 9 numbers.
  • Why is it so hard? Trezor protects you from viruses that can see where you click and follow the cursor as it moves.
  • To check, you will have to enter the PIN twice. But the numbers on the Trezor Model One are changed, so you will click on different places on the computer than before.

STEP 4. WALLET SETTINGS

  • The button Continue lets you finish setting up the PIN.
  • You can now choose which tokens and cryptocurrencies to use. You can change this setting at any time (i.e. it is not a problem to additionally add or remove cryptocurrency).
  • After clicking “Complete setup,” you can change the name of the wallet or how the home screen looks on Trezor Model One by clicking “Edit name” ( Change Homescreen).
  • Click on Suite Access.
The next step is to decide if you want to leave the wallet without a password (Standard wallet) or if you want to add an extra password to protect the wallet ( Hidden wallet). We suggest going with the second choice, which is a wallet with a password.
  • Why should you use one? The password or passphrase is like an extra seed word that the user chooses. To get the wallet back, you need to enter the seed and the passphrase. If someone steals your seed, they won’t be able to get to your cryptocurrency.
  • And it is done! Trezor Model One is ready to use and can now be used.

Sending cryptocurrencies to Trezor Model One

STEP-BY-STEP CRYPTOCURRENCY DEPOSIT ON TREZOR

  • Start Trezor Suite, connect Trezor to your computer and enter your PIN.
  • Choose the cryptocurrency and account you want on the left (if you have more than one).
  • Click on the tab Receive and choose one of the addresses that Trezor Model One gives you.
  • Now you need to make sure that the app is giving you the right address (there are viruses that subtly change the address). Click the green button that says “Show full address.”
  • The Trezor’s screen will show the address where the money is going. Check that the address on the Trezor is the same as the one on the Trezor Suite app.
  • If both addresses are the same, right-click on the Vault and confirm them ( Confirm). Now that you have the address, you can copy it and send cryptocurrency to it.

  • The app will show you a form where you fill in the amount (Amount) and the address of the person you want to send money ( Address). You can also change how much the transaction fee will be ( Fee).
  • When the transaction is ready, click the Send button. The transaction is sent to the Vault so that it can be confirmed.
  • On Trezor’s screen, the address of the person getting the money and the amount will be shown. Please check all of the information carefully, because once the transaction is sent, it can’t be taken back.
  • If the numbers match, press the right Vault button ( Confirm). The transaction is signed by the vault, and the cryptocurrencies are sent.

Resetting the Vault to factory settings

STEP-BY-STEP FACTORY RESET

  • Start Trezor Suite, connect Trezor to your computer and enter your PIN.
  • Select Device Settings (the gear icon in the upper right corner).
  • Choose Factory Reset from the menu.
  • Read all of the notices and make sure you understand them. Then click Factory reset.
  • You also need to confirm the reset on the Trezor itself (button Confirm).
  • The safe will be reset and all data will be lost (seed, PIN, passphrase, wallet name). If you also want to delete the firmware, you need to reset the wallet in bootloader mode.

Wallet recovery using seed

In order to use a seed to restore a wallet, the Vault must be empty. If you already have a wallet on Trezor Model One, you must first reset it.

STEP BY STEP RESTORING THE VAULT FROM SEED

  • Start the application Trezor Suite and connect the Trezor Model One to the computer.
  • Click Get Started in the Trezor Suite app to get started.
  • Put the software in place (see the new Trezor setup section ). SelectRecover wallet once the firmware is installed.
  • Pick the number of words in your seed.
  • Pick how you want to plant the seed.
  • Standard recovery (Standard recovery): You will type the words into the computer in a random order (you will see the order on the Trezor Model One display). This choice is easier to use but less safe.
  • Advanced recovery: You write words the same way you would write a PIN. This way is safer, but it takes a lot longer.
  • When you’re done, click the Continue button.
  • The next step is to choose a PIN, cryptocurrencies, and wallet type. These steps are the same as when a new wallet is set up (see above).
