In this article, we’ll show you how to set up, restore, and the Ledger Nano S Plus tutorial hardware wallet. The instructions will also help people who have the older Ledger Nano S Plus, since both works in almost the same way. So let’s do it!
A few tips for the introduction
- Only buy Ledger Nano S Plus hardware wallets from authorized sellers like Alza.cz or from the official e-shop on the ledger.com website.
- Don’t buy hardware wallets that have been used before. If you buy a used wallet, make sure the firmware is real and do a factory reset before you use it (see instructions below).
- You can manage your wallet with the Ledger Nano S Plus Live app. The app can be used on both computers and mobile phones.

STEP 1. WE’RE GETTING STARTED
- Use the USB cable that came with Ledger Nano S Plus to connect it to your computer.
- The Ledger Nano S Plus screen will show a welcome screen and instructions on how to use it (use the right and left buttons to scroll through the menu and confirm the choice by pressing both buttons at the same time).
- After clicking through the short guide, you’ll be given two options: create a new wallet (Set up a new device) or restore a seed wallet ( Restore from Recovery phrase). Since we’re making a new wallet, we’ll go with the first option.
STEP 2. ACCESS PIN
- The first step is to set a four- to eight-digit PIN. You will slowly set the numbers. So you click (the right/left button) and confirm (both buttons at the same time) the first digit, then the second, third, etc. Pressing both buttons means you accept the whole PIN.
- You will have to enter the PIN twice to make sure.
STEP 3. WALLET DEPOSIT
- After you set a PIN, you need to back up your wallet with a seed (24 English words that you write down on paper). You can use the seed to get your cryptocurrency back if you lose your Ledger Nano S Plus , break it, or forget your PIN.
- First, Ledger will tell you what a seed is and how to handle it safely.
- Now you’ll need a pen and a seed recording card, which comes with the kit. Ledger Nano S Plus will show you 24 English words one at a time, and you’ll have to explain what they mean in the order given.
- You will finally get a seed check. The Ledger Nano S Plus will show a list of all 24 words, and your job is to find and confirm specific words, like the third, eleventh, and twentieth. If your wallet has an older version of the firmware, you need to check all 24 words.
Adding a new cryptocurrency
To use Ledger Nano S Plus, you have to download applications that let you receive or send specific cryptocurrencies (each cryptocurrency has its own application). Next, you need to make an account (or multiple accounts) for each cryptocurrency.
STEP 1. INSTALLING CRYPTO-APPS
- Start Ledger Live, connect Ledger Nano S Plus to your computer and enter your PIN.
- Click on the Manager tab in the Ledger Live app and turn on access to the Ledger Nano S Plus (by pressing both buttons on the Ledger at the same time).
- Once the Ledger Nano S Plus is connected to the app, you will see information about the wallet (type, firmware, and storage status) and a list of cryptocurrencies that you can use. Click the Install button next to the coins you want to use. You can put up to 100 “cryptocurrencies” on your computer (or applications).
STEP 2. CREATE AN ACCOUNT
- Click on Account > Add Accounts in the Ledger Nano S Plus Live program and choose the cryptocurrency you want to use. Open the app for that cryptocurrency on Ledger.
- Enter the name of the account and click the Add Account button. One cryptocurrency can also have more than one account ( Add more).

STEP BY STEP RESTORING LEDGER FROM SEED
- Use the USB-C cable that came with Ledger to connect it to your computer. Welcome to Ledger Nano S Plus should show up on the screen. To go on, press the right button.
- Follow the first set of instructions, choose the “Restore from recovery phrase” option, and set a new PIN (see above ).

- Type the first letter: Use the right/left button to choose a letter, and press both buttons to confirm the letter. After you type the third letter, Ledger will show you a list of words that match. This way, you don’t have to write the whole word. So choose the word you want and then press both buttons at the same time to confirm it.
- Type all 12–24 words in this way.
- After the last word is typed in, the Ledger will work for a while (it will say “Processing”), and then it will say “Your device is now ready.”
- You need to install apps that let you control each cryptocurrency on your device so that you can send the ones you have stored (see Adding a new cryptocurrency ).
Setting a passphrase (creating a hidden wallet)
STEP BY STEP A HIDDEN WALLET IN LEDGER
Link your Ledger to your computer and use your PIN to open it.
Press both buttons for 3 seconds to open the Control Center, then go to SettingsSecurity.
Choose Passphrase and link to PIN. Ledger will make you a “hidden” wallet that is password protected and has a different PIN than the first wallet, which didn’t have a password.
Choose the PIN code for the passphrase and the password for the hidden wallet ( Enter the secret passphrase). There can be up to 100 numbers, letters, or special characters in the password.
The last step is to put in the original PIN to confirm.
Done! Ledger now has two wallets for you. Connect the Ledger to your computer and enter the original PIN to open the original wallet, which is only protected by the seed. Enter the PIN from the hidden wallet to open the hidden wallet, which is protected by seed and a password.
